We inspect blocks and check for cracks or damage ( Broken fins and minor imperfections that don't affect performance not criticle ) Remember that many of these blocks are over 50 years old. And occasionally we do some brazing for minor repairs. Next blocks are acid dipped and then glass beaded and all sealing surfaces are refinished!
Unlike many shops that run a hone thru and install new parts ( this only lasts about 1 year ) we bore every engine to new specs. We also turn all cranks undersize, weld and polish to hold tight specs. Valves are not just lapped in!!! All our engines have Valves, Guides and Seats recut in alignment to get a tight seal.. We recondition lifters and cams also! If cams are too worn they are discarded . If you have us put a head on, it is reconditioned also. We put in new pistons, rings, rods, gasket, seals. All block surfaces are resurfaced and we rebuilt/ repair gov assembly on all motors. Then we paint with heatproof engine primer!
We understand that repairs can be costly, We keep our costs low because we only do a few different engines so we have a machine for each operation on that engine. Our prices are very low for the quality of product we offer! If you had most any other shop do the work we do on these it would cost you over double our price. That is because we have been doing over 250 engines each year, and we can do one in half the time of other shops. We're not talking about a shop just putting in a new set of rings. To just address that briefly as many people call us to rebuild a motor they just had rebuilt somewhere else ( actually amounts to 1/3rd of our work). Reringing or refreshing an engine only lasrs a very short time so we don't do that here.We actually rebuild it like a new engine.
We want our customers to get long service life out of their engine so we encourage customers to call us if they need help getting the install in and running properly.
We have discontinued Kohler Shortblocks. These have been our lowest profit and most problem item we sell. Being a shortblock they require more customer assembly- even more than Onan Twins because Gov needs set. For that reason we're concentrating on pulling engines and twins as they require less customer involvement! !
Some parts being offered for these engines are more damaging then good! Most of the budget carbs have no idle circuit that works so it causes engines to run super hot. Coils without a ballist resister will trash engines also as well as fuel pumps. Call us if you have questions!
We have been in business here for 44 years at this same location. Also since 1991 we have been involved in building racing engines and products as Clark Racing. Our motors and carburetors have won many national titles for our customers. We now just concentrate on Garden Tractor Pulling and have hundreds of carbs and motors winning around the US over the past 20 years.
